I was literally just about to compose a message to this list when I received yours. Are you implying that UX2BS is officially obsolete? I know it hasn't been updated in a long time but should one no longer try to use it? I have found that creating a build environment is far from a simple process. I have tried several times over several years. I currently have three build environments: one I tried building manually, one using UX2BS and one using a unzipped copy of Paul Smedley's environment. And either they are not set up properly or I do not know how to use them properly (each is likely) because most builds I attempt experience a variety of problems. If UX2BS is obsolete, is there a preferred alternate way to create a build environment? -- John Small ----------- To unsubscribe yourself from this list, send the following message to list-request at unixos2.com unsubscribe ux2bs end **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Mon, 28 May 2007 14:48:39 -0400 From: "John Small" Subject: [Ux2BS] Which shell? I am trying to create a build environment (again). This time I think I am close to achieving my goal. I have found that the shell program seems to make a significant difference. For example, there are shell programs where the TYPE and/or TEST commands are broken. Is there a "best" or recommended shell program to use when building software? (BASH, ASH, etc) Is there a "best" or recommended version of this shell program to use? Since file dates and times are seemingly meaningless (programs with differing dates/times claiming to be the same version), is there a consistent way to establish the version of the shell? One shell program I have has a $SH_VERSION variable and another has $BASH_VERSION. Instead of having to discover these variables for each shell I am hoping that there is "standard" way to find the version of a shell program. (I have tried "sh --version" which doesn't work.) And once one has settled on a shell program, does one copy it to /bin/sh.exe so that all those scripts with "#!/bin/sh" will use the preferred shell? Or is there a better way to ensure that the chosen shell is used? -- John Small ----------- To unsubscribe yourself from this list, send the following message to list-request at unixos2.com unsubscribe ux2bs end **= Email 4 ==========================** Date: Tue, 29 May 2007 10:35:04 +1000 (EST) From: "IanM" Subject: Re: [Ux2BS] Just a reminder Hi John >Are you implying that UX2BS is officially obsolete? Everyones free to use it, just a reminder that it exists (as unixos2.com, not unixos2.org) but if no one's going to use it then maybe it's time to turn it off but as your've just used it :-) >If UX2BS is obsolete, is there a preferred alternate way to create a build >environment? I get the distinct feeling that GCC has taken over especially with the kLIB extension. I've installed Paul's GCC build enviroment with the Mozilla additions from PeterW, just havent had the time to go further with it. http://smedley.info/os2ports/ Cheers IanM http://www.os2site.com/ HIGH RELIABILITY = We made it work long enough to ship it. ----------- To unsubscribe yourself from this list, send the following message to list-request at unixos2.com unsubscribe ux2bs end
