A couple of weeks ago I encountered the UX2BS site and downloaded the little bootstrap program. Somwhere I read that the build system is best installed on its own partition but I couldn't afford to make a new one so I made a "u" directory on my D: drive and created a network share for it (d:\u -> o:). Then I ran the bootstrap telling after setting set osrt=c: set bldrt=o: set uxrt=o: Everything seemed to install OK and mostly worked. I had a few problems with path issues given that most of the stuff I was working on was on D: but nothing too major. After working with this for a bit I grew to like the idea of having a fairly UNIXy directory setup on my real working drive, D:, so I trashed the o: stuff and cleaned up my d: drive as much as possible (mostly by moving things into a subdirectory) and re-ran the script after editing to replace both instances of o: with d:. The install seemed to go without a hitch, terminating with a gasp after building less. However what I finished up with on d: seemed but a shadow of what I had trashed from o:. After my original install on o: I had three different versions of gcc (2.8.1, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2) along with a workplace shell folder with icons pointing at o:\sbin\ux2_shell.cmd, o:\sbin\gcc_shell.cmd and o:\sbin\gcc2_shell.cmd which activated environments tailored to the three gcc versions. There was also a ports directory and an XFree86 directory and probably some others that I don't remember. Oh, yes, there was an emx directory with 2.8.1 and 3.2.1 compilers and a gcc directory with the Innotek version. As things stand now, I have just the 2.8.1 compiler. None of those *_shell.cmd files exist anywhere on the d: drive. When I asked John Poltorak over at the unix-os2 group what he thought I had done wrong, he said that he's never seen the other stuff that I just mentioned. Hence my parallel universe conjecture. Any idea what on earth I did to get my original setup? If it isn't part of the ux2bs bootstrap then is there something else that I did afterwards and have since forgotten? -- Jon Saxton Developer of cross-platform software for UNIX, Windows and OS/2 U.S. agent for Triton Technologies International Ltd http://www.triton.vg/ _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 13:07:59 -0400 From: "T.Sikora" Subject: Re: Bootstrap issues Jon Saxton wrote: > I feel like I have just landed here from some parallel universe ... > > A couple of weeks ago I encountered the UX2BS site and downloaded the little > bootstrap program. That was an iterim release while John was gone. You now have the correct one. The first one actually is a spinoff project that Jeff and me will eventually start working on. -- T.Sikora tsikora at ntplx dot net _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 4 ==========================** Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 13:53:33 -0400 From: "T.Sikora" Subject: New pages I'm doing a new UX2BS page now with the correct bootstrap to stop all this confusion. website http://os2ports.com/sections/ux2bs mailing list http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs The spinoff project UX2 Redux is meant as an interim release or framework for the UX2 distribution until it becomes available. It may or may not resemble the yet to be released distribution but provides an immediate working platform for OS2-Unix ports as a stop gap measure that is based on both the UX2BS and UX2. All current developments will be implemented when made available. 'Purist' conventions take a backseat for the sake of 'urgency' and binaries may or may not have been built with the system. The ultimate goal is for them to be built and packaged entirely with UX2. website http://os2ports.com/sections/ux2redux mailing list http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2 -- T.Sikora tsikora at ntplx dot net _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 5 ==========================** Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 19:14:54 -0400 From: "T.Sikora" Subject: Re: New pages John Poltorak wrote: > On Wed, May 12, 2004 at 01:53:33PM -0400, T.Sikora wrote: > >>I'm doing a new UX2BS page now with the correct bootstrap to stop all >>this confusion. >> >>website >>http://os2ports.com/sections/ux2bs > > > But you've called it ux2bs_inst.cmd and I always call it ux2_bootstrap.cmd... > Ooops I'll change it. > >>-- >>T.Sikora >>tsikora at ntplx dot net > > > -- T.Sikora tsikora at ntplx dot net _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 6 ==========================** Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 21:20:36 +0100 From: John Poltorak Subject: Re: New pages On Wed, May 12, 2004 at 01:53:33PM -0400, T.Sikora wrote: > I'm doing a new UX2BS page now with the correct bootstrap to stop all > this confusion. > > website > http://os2ports.com/sections/ux2bs But you've called it ux2bs_inst.cmd and I always call it ux2_bootstrap.cmd... > -- > T.Sikora > tsikora at ntplx dot net -- John _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 7 ==========================** Date: Wed, 12 May 2004 21:15:56 +0100 From: John Poltorak Subject: Re: New pages On Wed, May 12, 2004 at 04:06:48PM -0400, Jon Saxton wrote: > ** Reply to note from "T.Sikora" on Wed, 12 May 2004 > 13:53:33 -0400 > > > I'm doing a new UX2BS page now with the correct bootstrap to stop all > > this confusion. > > Thanks!
