Well, it didn't make a log, so I used tee to be able to get the screen output of ux2bs_inst into a file. It's happening while the gimp is being made. There doesn't seem to be any CMD type program called install.cmd or install.exe in the ux2 tree, so I'm curious about just what it's supposed to run at that point... after all, install.sh isn't going to run under CMD without being called via sh, which would mean that the line should read something like sh install.sh -d [... etc ...] Is this in fact what it should be doing? What you should start with is this:- wget ftp://unixos2: at 213.152.37.92/pub/unixos2/build_system/lib/ux2_bootstrap.cmd Then run the cmd that you have retrieved. You may need to adjust a couple of drive letters before you kick it off. It may be preferable to delete everything you have installed previously since something basic may not have been run correctly. If all the archives have already been retrieived succesfully, you may wish to save them. A good idea would be to move them to a different location away from \unixos2\archives and set up a %REPOSITORY% variable to point to it before you run ux2_bootstrap. > -- > ------------------------------------------------------------------- > * Jack Troughton jake at consultron.ca * > * http://consultron.ca irc.ecomstation.ca * > * Kingston Ontario Canada news://news.consultron.ca * > ------------------------------------------------------------------- -- John _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 6 ==========================** Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 17:30:00 +0000 From: John Poltorak Subject: Re: Well, I just tried the new build system. Does one still need to run ux2bs_inst.cmd? The run with bootstrap finished, but it finished by building less, not perl. It seems that a number of apps simply didn't get retrieved. This is a source of some frustration and lack of error checking in the installation. There is a presumption that everything works :-)... Please post dir \unixos2\logs\* In the initial build there are quite a number of apps that have to be built in a specifi sequence because of their dependencies. If you can get hold of BYACC for example a number of the subsequent apps won't get built. The main aim of the initial build is to get the build system installed and use it to build all the apps in build.lst and subsequently run update_base.cmd. It's quite an ambitious task but does work sometimes. If you have managed to build Perl I'd be interested in the test results you get so could you post the lines near the end of \unixos2\logs\perl.log which start with something like:- Failed 7/726 test scripts and end with:- 60 tests and 567 subtests skipped. > -- > ------------------------------------------------------------------- > * Jack Troughton jake at consultron.ca * > * http://consultron.ca irc.ecomstation.ca * > * Kingston Ontario Canada news://news.consultron.ca * > ------------------------------------------------------------------- -- John _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 13 ==========================** Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 14:03:08 -0800 From: "Dave and Natalie" Subject: Re: Well, I just tried the new build system. You're not going to see that: the truly relevant section is: tar: Cannot open archive q:/unixos2/archives/source/perl-5.8.0.tar.gz: No such file or directory The archive perl-5.8.0.tar.gz does not appear to have extracted correctly so the build of perl is unable to continue. Press any key to EXIT So this is basically a problem with network connectivity; the server for the source archives is not reliable... is that it? Which machine is it getting all this stuff from? Poking around it looks like it failed to download a fair number of files... If this is a "home rolled doobie" that's based on custom servers, then synching up with os2ports.com is prolly a good idea... -- ------------------------------------------------------------------- * Jack Troughton jake at consultron.ca * * http://consultron.ca irc.ecomstation.ca * * Kingston Ontario Canada news://news.consultron.ca * ------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ UX2BS mailing list UX2BS at os2ports.com http://os2ports.com/mailman/listinfo/ux2bs **= Email 16 ==========================** Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 17:33:02 -0500 From: Jack Troughton Subject: Build system Perhaps it might not be a bad idea to set up CVS access at os2ports.com so you guys can all work on the same build tree...? The only contact it needs with my system is or a few short scripts. It is virtually is a bootstrap. Maybe this version has been superceeded... Maybe update build.table and change the line for perl from 5.8.0 to 5.8.3 and see if you get anywhere when running 'build perl' from \unixos2\lib. You might be the first person to build the latest version on OS/2 ;-)... > So this is basically a problem with network connectivity; the server for > the source archives is not reliable... is that it? > > Which machine is it getting all this stuff from?
