I agree. I was thinking about this myself. Apsitape and Aspiroute both do basicially the same thing - allow ring 3 apps access to issue SCSI commands. I've put this on my list too. I need it more for problem analysis. I use BA2K here for backups and it generally works very well. However, I suspect that cdrecord intermittently does something that leaves the SCSI bus in an inconsistent state. What happens here is that every now and then I can't access the tape drive until I reboot. Since I only use the tape for weekly and monthly backups, I'm not yet sure I understand what triggers this.
