I've tracked down the problem. mozilla uses a user-defined function
'abspath' which is overridden by the new builtin function 'abspath'
which didn't take into account drive letters.

This version was built with NLS support. However, many messages
seem to be untranslated, so you will see mostly English for
nearly all languages.
