Subject:   init.d scripts for servers

In order to get a more Unix-like environment I'm thinking of creating 
init.d scripts for all the server processes I run. I presume that on Unix 
any script in /etc/init.d is started automatically on bootup. Can anyone 
tell me how that is done? I'd like to include something similar in 
startup.cmd.
