Anyways poking around I found this http://www.balabit.com/products/syslog_ng/ > which is the next generation syslog. How does this next generation syslog differ from the traditional flavour? Is it a drop in replacement? > Also there was a new syslog posted to Hobbes the other day. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/system/syslog3a.zip While it is new to Hobbes, it isn't actually new. What I would like to do is incorporate SYSLOG into UX2BS. The standard way of doing this is to take the original Unix source, add the specific OS/2 patches, and then build using the modified source. Presumably this app is derived from some original Unix source, and that is what I am looking for. -- John **= Email 2 ==========================** Date: Mon, 03 Nov 2003 13:49:59 +0100 (CET) From: "Adrian Gschwend" Subject: Re: Syslog On Mon, 3 Nov 2003 11:58:44 +0000, John Poltorak wrote: >What I would like to do is incorporate SYSLOG into UX2BS. > >The standard way of doing this is to take the original Unix source, add >the specific OS/2 patches, and then build using the modified source. >Presumably this app is derived from some original Unix source, and that is >what I am looking for. try this: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/usr.sbin/syslogd/ cu Adrian -- Adrian Gschwend at netlabs.org ktk [a t] netlabs.org ------- Free Software for OS/2 and eCS http://www.netlabs.org **= Email 3 ==========================** Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003 14:29:10 +0000 From: John Poltorak Subject: Re: Syslog On Mon, Nov 03, 2003 at 01:49:59PM +0100, Adrian Gschwend wrote: > On Mon, 3 Nov 2003 11:58:44 +0000, John Poltorak wrote: > > >What I would like to do is incorporate SYSLOG into UX2BS. > > > >The standard way of doing this is to take the original Unix source, add > >the specific OS/2 patches, and then build using the modified source. > >Presumably this app is derived from some original Unix source, and that is > >what I am looking for. > > try this: > > http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/usr.sbin/syslogd/ Yes, this seems to contain some of the files used in SYSLOG, but there is no syslog.c which is required to make syslog.a and syslog.lib. > cu > > Adrian > > > -- > Adrian Gschwend > at netlabs.org > > ktk [a t] netlabs.org > ------- > Free Software for OS/2 and eCS > http://www.netlabs.org > -- John **= Email 4 ==========================** Date: Mon, 03 Nov 2003 23:27:17 +0100 (CET) From: "Adrian Gschwend" Subject: Re: Syslog On Mon, 3 Nov 2003 14:29:10 +0000, John Poltorak wrote: >Yes, this seems to contain some of the files used in SYSLOG, but there is >no syslog.c which is required to make syslog.a and syslog.lib. uhm I don't really get the point, syslogd is the deamon, syslog itself is for example a systemcall. Are you talking about the dll for the library file? cu Adrian -- Adrian Gschwend at netlabs.org ktk [a t] netlabs.org ------- Free Software for OS/2 and eCS http://www.netlabs.org
