Can I deny a host in OS/2 like Unix with it's hosts.deny? Their coming from only 2 domains. I was told I have an Open SMTP. I never heard of this. Is this how they are doing it? I had the attachment in my queue and couldn't delete it. It said it was being used by another process. How the hell did they manage that? Then test with both "Test My Shields" and "Probe My Ports" (Probe My Ports will show your SMTP port 25 status). > I had the attachment in my queue and couldn't > delete it. They may have found you by randomly checking IP addresses until they found a "useable" SMTP server, then they just signed on and started relaying messages through you. My firewall log shows I'm being "hit" every minute or two by someone looking for an open port (though not usually port 25). Here's the RFC for mail -- it's worth reading to see how someone can remotely use someone else's SMTP server: ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc2821.txt > Can I change a line in sendmail.cf to prevent this? I've been told you can but I don't know how. If you want to do more than put in a firewall for protection, get the O'Reilly book on sendmail (I've been planning on buying it for a couple of years now . . .) http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sendmail3/ http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sendmailqr/ Here are earlier versions: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sendmail2/ http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/sendmail/ The earliest book is probably "right" for 2.02/2.03. Your local library or a university library may have a copy. I watch for weird activity in a variety of ways -- an IP monitor (IPSPEED) to see if I'm sending when I shouldn't be, SmartBar to see if any process is busy when it shouldn't be, and an occasional look at mail.log. - Peter **= Email 10 ==========================** Date: Fri, 27 Dec 2002 14:03:21 +0000 From: "Lyn St George" Subject: Re: Perl build error On Fri, 27 Dec 2002 11:42:08 +0000, John Poltorak wrote: > >Is there any way to tell where all the file handles have gone? > >ie how do I get a list of open files? > As far as I recall, this problem stems from certain versions of gcc, in particular the dlls used.
