For people who use non-ASCII mail: Version 4.50 of Pine makes a big change to the way character sets are handled, with the introduction of the new character set conversion feature in all ports of Pine. The old OS/2-specific code for displaying ISO-8850-* mail on a codepage 85* display has been deleted. The new feature is expected to have some teething problems; users who rely heavily on non-ASCII mail might like to keep a copy of Pine 4.44 handy. For people who like to live on the edge: I've also compiled an experimental version of Pine for OS/2 using a re-vamped build process with the aim of bringing the OS/2 version closer to the Unix version and therefore easier to maintain. It also adds some features that are missing in the standard port. In particular: * Vio*() calls have been replaced with the ncurses code from Unix; Pine and Pico should now run in xterm under XFree86/OS2. There are still some bugs in this but it is usable. * The IMAP and POP servers now compile, but getting them to do anything useful is still an adventure. * The SSL code from Unix has been compiled in but I haven't had a chance to do any real testing. See the documentation for more details. Ultimately I hope this new port will become the usual one but for the moment it is an alpha version with known bugs and undoubtedly many unknown ones. I'd like to get feedback on how well it works and how the things that don't work might be fixed. You can get the new version, source code patches and all OS/2 Pine information from my Pine web site at: http://www.zeta.org.au/~nps/software/pine/en/index.html Nicholas S. |\ Location: Wollongong, Australia | Nothing astonishes people so much as |\ E-mail: nps at zeta.org.au | common sense and plain dealing. | WWW: http://www.zeta.org.au/~nps | | ---> Cynicism & Negativity | **= Email 2 ==========================** Date: Sun, 24 Nov 2002 12:40:07 +0100 (CET) From: DWParsons at t-online.de (Dave Parsons) Subject: Which upload site to use? Hi, I've just had a look at unix.os2site.com and I see that things have changed quite a lot since I was last there. Specifically, I could not find any developer stuff such as gcc/emx/gnat on unixos2 but I could find some on the linked os2ports site. One problem I found was that I didn't seem to be able to search for file names, only for strings within documents on unixos2, so I may have missed them. This seems like an omission to me if it is really true that you can't search for files by name. Has there been an intentional split which I missed? Which is now the preferred site to which Gnat 3.15p should be uploaded? Or I can upload it to my home page and any maintainers can fetch it if they are interested. The link is to:- http://unix.os2site.com/ada so it looks as this page didn't get transferred when unixos2.com was re-sited. Can someone correct this, And maybe update the page to take account of the new version of GNAT? > David Parsons -- John **= Email 4 ==========================** Date: Sun, 24 Nov 2002 17:30:42 From: DWParsons at t-online.de (Dave Parsons) Subject: ANN: GNAT 3.15p binary for OS/2 available Following the release of GNAT 3.15p by ACT last week, I have now compiled a binary for OS/2 V4 / eCS.
