It comes from a different porter to the one who produced 1.11.1. -- John **= Email 2 ==========================** Date: Mon, 26 Aug 2002 22:30:01 -0500 From: rsteiner at visi.com (Richard Steiner) Subject: Re: Basic OS/2 support Here in list.os2-unix, Dave Webster spake unto us, saying: >What do you folks do to keep your OS up to date, especially if the idiots >at IBM are going to start charging for basic fixpaks? Until about two months ago, I didn't bother to do anything at all (tho I've updated various third-party subsystems from time to time like EMX and various applications). There were no serious problems with the core OS that I could see (in spite of IBM's rather lengthy APAR lists) except for a WinOS2 file manager date display glitch that I didn't care about, so I didn't bother to apply any FixPaks here either. Until recently. I finally updated to FixPak 15 using RSU when Mozilla 1.0 came out, mainly because Mozilla *required* FP15 to run (it errored otherwise). FWIW, I'm still using the original video, sound, NIC, and SCSI drivers that came in the box with Warp 4. >If they no longer are interested in OS/2 why don't they just give it all >away, including VA 3.0/3.6/4.0? It would be nice to see IBM release those portions of OS/2 that they have the legal right to release, but if that happens at all I suspect it won't be for a while. >FYI, we about to weeks from releasing the latest wxWindows, which will >include wxOS2 for the first time.
